While we regret to do this, we have to wait until 2009 to start our racing season. We tried to throw this thing together in only a few weeks, and it just can't be done. Our biggest hurdle is the insurance. While we will have no problem getting it, our carrier has to get the OK from the underwriter, and that's where the current roadblock is. There is no way we could get their approval in a timely fashion. Our plans are now to have our first event in April. This will give us time to get everything done, and done right!
It's obvious that this will be a home run... we've been getting an impressive amount of hits on the website. The phone calls and e-mails also tell us everything we need to know that the interest is there.
What we are going to do now is move forward and get everything ready for April. Our plans are to pave a new track over the road we were going to use, widening it in the process to allow for side-by-side racing. While we are going to promote the street legal format, we feel that we can also push for cars that are "race only". We also are going to make a push for street rods, particularly some kind of a "rat rod" class. We need input from all of you on these items.
10/28 - All seem to agree that getting together for a rules meeting would be beneficial, so we will work on a place and date. Keep your eye on this site for announcements. also, anyone with suggestions as to where we can have this meeting would be welcome.
Second, we just received word yesterday that we have a great shot at a second venue to race. It's feasable that we could have TWO racetracks next season. We can't reveal details right now, but let's just say that anybody in Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster counties will be relatively close. We'll post more if this comes about.
Any thoughts? Give us a call, or click on the "contact page" and let us know.
SPREAD THE WORD... RACING IS COMING TO MIDDLETOWN!
Below are pictures from the 100 foot Drags at Waterford, Conn. at the Waterford Speedbowl.
"What is Holeshot Drag Racing?" Holeshot Drag Racing is a short distance drag race of 100 feet. Traditional Drag Strips are usually 1/8 or 1/4 mile in length, using a tremendous amount of real estate. Holeshot Drags utilize only a fraction of that space, allowing this type of event to be held in more venues such as parking lots, stock car tracks, etc.
The most action in a race is right in the begining when the cars do their burnouts, and when they launch from the starting line. Holeshot Drags has all of this, plus the advantage of the whole racing program being run at a fast pace. Racers get more runs in a day than at other conventional strips... getting 10-15 test & tune runs in a day is not uncommon. We had one racer get 31 time shots in before eliminations!
What is HDRA's mission?
Our mission at HDRA is for everyone to have a good time and blow off a little steam by racing their cars in a safe legal place. Our goal is to bring back racing to areas that no longer have drag racing (or never did). We already have that started in Conn. We are looking to provide an safe alternative to street racing. For those racing, we are looking to keep this FUN! This means keeping everything simple, and the cost of racing affordable.
What kind of cars can run?
These races will be for licensed drivers with street legal cars only (including DOT tires and closed off exhaust). All street legal cars are eligible, from the wildest pro-street to the guy driving "mom's car". All cars will be competitive, as there will be different classes (indexes) separating the fast cars from the slower ones. We will also be doing traditional bracket racing this upcoming season in which you can choose your own dial-in, something that will be new for us.
